Healthy Living – Why is water so vital

Posted on June 10th, 2010

Water is the most important nutrient for human body. Most normal people would be able to live without 40-45 days, but could survive only food, three or four days without water.

Your body is 70 percent water, and may remain so. A lot of water daily to maintain most of your body functions, and used to get rid of toxins from the body, rather than take it back up and return. Signs of dehydration include drySkin, headache, constipation and hard stools, along with concentration problems and bloating. As you gain weight when the body feels starved of water, then there is little that should take that lead to water retention.

Water is lost through the intestines, urine and sweat and must be replaced constantly. The average demand is eight glasses a day. It can also help people with no caffeine teas and fruit juices. How important is the balance and allthere is a level at which something is poisonous. Drinking five times this amount of water has been shown that it is dangerous.

If you are very dehydrated, it raises the water slowly or you could shock the body. Diluting the juice with equal quantity of water can help keep the water in cells, but careful not to drink too, Because it is high in sugar.

Water is important for weight loss than the removal of toxins and acts as a temperature controller supports. Itsupports the function of enzymes and proteins, diluted job better and helps the body burn fat to achieve its optimal function.

At Home Cures For Urinary Tract Infections – What Works

Posted on June 9th, 2010

There may be many at home cures for urinary tract infections, but your concern lies with how effective they are. After all, it’s pointless finding one if it doesn’t work.

So here, the emphasis is on at home cures that work.

Sometimes the best home cure for a urinary tract infection is drinking more water. People often don’t drink enough. Although I’m not a great advocate of forcing yourself to drink copious amounts of water, I am a great believer in drinking when you’re thirsty.

And people often don’t do that. You may not be near a source of water, you may be too busy, not wanting to interrupt what you’re doing. And so you can end up dehydrated. OK, it’s not seriously dehydrated, but it can be enough to give you recurring urinary tract infections.

Another common cause of this problem is your diet. A diet high in fast food, processed food and animal protein is likely to be the cause of many more serious health issues down the track, but can start with urinary tract infections.

By changing your diet, one step at a time, to include more real food, more plant-based food such as fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds, you may find that you not only resolve your current problems, but can remain healthy.

Important though these two measures are, and are essential to your ongoing good health, for a really rapid resolution, it’s difficult to go past homeopathy.

Homeopathy is a powerful but gentle modality of natural and complete health care. It works by taking into consideration your personal symptoms to then stimulate your immune system.

Homeopathy is also a very flexible modality of health care. Not only can the expert services of a good, professional homeopath be called upon, you can also learn to use some of the common home prescribing remedies yourself, at home. This means that, by learning a few basic skills, you can have to hand your most useful and effective at home cures.

Vitamin Supplements – Good Vs Evil

Posted on June 8th, 2010

Right vs. Wrong. Good vs. Evil. Healthy vs. Unhealthy. Alive vs. Dead. Natural vs. Synthetic.

Vitamin supplements come in all shapes in sizes. They vary wildly in color, consistency, texture, daily value, and effectiveness, as well as suggested dosage and directions for use.

Yet when it’s all said and done, there are only two main groups of vitamin supplements on the market: Natural and Synthetic.

Natural Vitamin Supplements are generally found in capsule, powder, or liquid form. They contain dehydrated, concentrated whole-food vitamins derived usually from plant sources: vegetables, fruits, grasses, grains, sea vegetation, roots, seeds, nuts, flowers, and other natural sources.

In capsule form, you will find a wide array of vitamins, including multivitamins and antioxidant formulations… the two types of vitamin supplement I most recommend.

Liquid vitamin supplements are also very popular and effective. Liquid chlorophyl (an amazing energy provider) and sublingual vitamins & minerals (dropped under the tongue and absorbed through the sublingual membrane). Powerfully concentrated juice blends could also fall into the liquid vitamin supplements category. The acai berry, when juiced, is an amazing example of a natural liquid supplement. So is wheatgrass.

A common example of a supplement in powder form is a “super greens” drink mix. These contain dehydrated grasses, among other powdered foods, including kelp, algae, brown rice, chlorella, and barley. Again these vary quite drastically, but they are all super healthy and highly recommended!

Synthetic Vitamin Supplements are far more common than their natural counterparts. These are the over-the-counter daily vitamins you see in your corner grocery or drug store. They are made in laboratories by chemists who are desperately trying to duplicate the types of vitamins found in natural food sources.

These are “vitamin simulations” that just don’t measure up. Our bodies don’t recognize these chemicals as vitamins, but as intruders. As if we don’t have enough troubles on our own, now our cells have to work like crazy to eliminate these chemicals, along with the crushed-up rocks that are marketed as “minerals.” Evidence of this can be found in our urine, which often turns a bright fluorescent green. “Vitamin burps,” heartburn, and the jitters are further evidence that this stuff is fake, and that our bodies want no part of it.

In Summary:

Go NATURAL! Natural supplements are easily recognized, assimilated, and used (what a concept) by our bodies. When this type of nutrition is present, we will look and feel better than we ever have. Our skin will be clear and radiant. Our energy, mood, and mental clarity will be through the roof! We will look better and feel better than perhaps we EVER have!

To enjoy these benefits, simply do the following:

Hydrate. 4 to 6 liters of purified water every day will flush out toxins and keep your cells plump and healthy.
Eat well. Stop the fast food madness. Drink water, not soda. Substitute fresh fruit and/or yogurt for sugary snacks and desserts. By making just these easy changes, you will be way ahead of the game!
Supplement. Get them at your local health food store. A whole-food multivitamin with chelated minerals, probiotics, natural enzymes, and phytonutrients is great. Add a high-powered antioxidant like the acai berry and you will absolutely rock!

And that’s it! Easy to follow. Not too many steps. Just do these three things and your life will be enhanced beyond your expectations.

Some of you may be asking “what about physical exercise?” Listen, when you follow the three steps listed above on a daily basis, your body will be so energized… so vibrant… so alive that you will have no choice but to move! You’ll want to dance, run, and skip all day long! This stuff is truly that powerful!

I’m excited for your success! Thank you for reading.

Backpacking For Beginners – Starting on an Exciting Journey

Posted on June 6th, 2010

There are some things to consider before you start backpacking for the first time. Beginners need to know about backpacking equipment, gear, supplies and essentials.

Backpacking can turn into a horrifying experience if you’re not prepared with the basics.

Backpacking can be done in either urban areas or in the wilderness or a mixture of both and the requirements of backpacking equipment and gear are different as well as the planning.

Common tips for Beginners

There are some backpacking tips that apply to both the wilderness and civilization.

Here they are:

Break in your hiking boots by taking them for short hikes.
Test your backpack clothing to check if they’ll be comfortable for you by using them on short hikes. Fully load your backpack with all you need for the backpacking trip and take them on short hikes to test for comfort and to find out which of the straps does a better job in distributing the load.
Test and learn how to use your camping equipment including camping stove, water filter, camping tents, GPS, altimeter and headlamps.
Get your body in shape because backpacking can get very nasty if you’re not fit.
Travelling light is oftentimes much more enjoyable than having too much on your backpack.

Backpacking in Urban Areas for Beginners

Traditionally, backpacking is a cheap way to get from one place to another. It involves more than just walking and hiking.

Historically it’s a cheap form of travel. Though it is an enjoyable experience, it’s more of an education than a vacation.

You’re likely to experience a lot more of the important stuff when you’re backpacking than when you’re just using some kind of modern transportation.

An hours’ travel by car can mean a whole day or like 2 or more if you’re backpacking but a backpacker also experiences a lot more. Backpackers see a whole lot more than the normal tourist. They mingle with local people and witness what real life is really like at a certain place. It’s like you’re living there for some time.

There is a sense of community as you stay in a backpacker’s hostel or lodge where you’ll meet other like-minded individuals sharing the rooms, kitchen, toilet, lounge are, etc.

Backpacking is about travelling with a small budget and to avoid the risk of theft backpackers don’t usually carry expensive electronic equipment.

The rising trend is backpacking with a big budget, staying in lavish accommodations and carrying expensive equipment such as laptops and PDAs especially for young generations to satisfy their need to stay connected.

Backpacking in Rural Areas or the Wild

In some places, having a big budget doesn’t help. Small villages and towns may not be able to offer lavish accommodations other than the backpacker’s hostel and sometimes not even that equipment such as laptops and blackberries may be rendered useless especially in you are backpacking in the wilderness.

Backpacking Gear

The initial cost can be quite high if you are backpacking in the wild especially you are hiking and camping as camping equipment like sleeping bags (especially down) and camping tents can get quite expensive.

Backpacking, for beginners, also requires a lot more preparation and research. Care should be taken in preparing equipment and you need to test it out and learn how to use them.

The most important backpacking gear is your hiking boots. It’s important that your hiking boots are comfortable so having a perfect fit in the first place and breaking them in later is crucial.

The best way to break in your hiking boots is to take on short hikes with a full load. At the same time it’s a good time to test your hiking/camping/backpacking gear including your backpack.

See if your clothing is too hot or too cold for you or if they pose any other problems like ‘riding up’ and rubbing against your skin.

Test your backpack whether they’re comfortable or not. Try all the straps and identify which ones help distribute the load better.

Take your backpacking equipment a gear testing not just on smooth walkways but also on uneven ground going uphill and downhill to maximize testing. This will also toughen up your feet and reduce the chances of blistering when you go for the real trip and at same time improves your strength and fitness which is crucial for a good backpacking trip.

Learn and practice how to use all of your hiking and camping equipment so that you are more prepared for less than ideal situations.

Use a camping list or camping checklist and pack your hiking/camping gear and equipment early so that you can make sure that you don’t miss any backpacking essentials including the first aid kit, personal medicine and safety and emergency equipment.

Pack heavier equipment close to your body so as to avoid your load from pulling away and make the backpack feel heavier than it is. Rain gear and a waterproof enclosure containing extra layers, gloves and hat should be kept at the top of your backpack where it is easily accessible.

Your clothing and sleeping bag should also be in a waterproof enclosure so that it stays dry even when your backpack is underwater.

Other things that need to dry include electronic equipment like laptops, cameras and camcorders, personal essentials such as toilet paper and daily essentials like snacks, compass, pocket knife, maps and guidebooks, sunscreen and insect repellents. Pack these in the outer pocket of your backpack as you are likely to use them more.

Water bottles should be kept upright and should be easily accessible as well. Your camping tent can strapped to the outside of your backpack including the tent poles.

The first aid kit should be kept where the contents can be secure yet is still easily accessible.

For beginners, choosing which camping food to bring could be a problem. Unfortunately the best way to determine which kinds of food is right for you to bring camping or backpacking is by trial and error. Take some advice here and there and see if it works for you.

To be safe, base your decisions on taste, nutritional value, weight, ease of preparation and packaging. A favorite among hikers and backpackers are dehydrated food which are light, have good nutritional value and also taste good.

Hiking has been long considered as one of the most effective ways to increase your fitness and it can be grueling.

Good preparation of backpacking equipment and gear and researching the place where you’re going to explore as well as keeping yourself in shape will help you go through the expedition with minimal problems.

At the same time backpacking can be highly satisfying so if you’re thinking of going backpacking, do it, it can be the most memorable days of your life.

Posted on June 5th, 2010

Looking for fresh diet meal delivery? While diet food delivery is becoming extremely popular these days, you do have a lot of options.

There are services that will prepare everything from low carb to low fat, vegetarian to diabetic meals and deliver them to your home for a very affordable price. And food that is chef-prepared and fresh is what most people want.

People usually find that it’s easier to lose weight with a fresh diet food delivery service because it’s:

#1 More Convenient – You just grab your meal, heat for about 5 minutes and eat. No shopping and preparing food. No cooking for hours. With people’s busy time schedules, prepared diet meals can be much more convenient which makes it easier to lose weight.

#2 Pre-Portioned – Again, it’s all done for you here. Meals are calorie controlled and prepared according to specific weight loss standards. You don’t have to measure or count calories, carbs, etc.

#3 Delicious – There’s nothing like bland, boring food to derail your best weight loss efforts. Many diet food delivery services offer gourmet meals that they’ve tested and refined to create the most delicious meals possible. So you feel like you’re getting pampered while you lose weight.

While some diet food delivery services use vacuum-packed or dehydrated meals, fresh diet meal delivery services use freshly prepared, whole foods, often without any added preservatives, chemicals or trans-fats.

So your meals not only taste better, but they’re healthier for you too. And since they taste better, it’s much easier to stick to your diet and lose weight. While fresh diet food delivery in general costs a little bit more per day than frozen or vacuum packed foods, it’s still affordable – and often cheaper than buying and preparing the food yourself.

There are 2 types of fresh diet meal delivery services:

The first type prepares the food fresh and then ships it to you in cooling containers – usually once or twice a week. These services tend to delivery nationwide, offer more meal options and be more affordable than the second option ($17 – $25 a day).

The second type of service will prepare the meal fresh and ship it to your door every day. These types of services tend to be more local, offer fewer options and cost more (about $45-$60 a day). These services are usually only available in major metropolitan areas like Southern California or New York City.

So it’s really up to you what you choose. In general however, going with a fresh diet meal delivery services (over a frozen, meal replacement or dehydrated diet food option) tends to be healthier with less preservatives. It also tastes better and gives you more gourmet options. This is important since when you feel pampered with delicious food you’re much more likely to stick with the diet plan and lose the weight.

While services that prepared food fresh used to be harder to find, there are several very popular options now on the market with low calorie, low carb, vegetarian and even diabetic options. Take your time, read the menus and choose one that fits your tastes. And enjoy losing weight!

Puppy Comes Home Now What? – Part 6 of Online Dog Training

Posted on June 4th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When your puppy comes home everyone is so excited. You have done your homework and have found the perfect puppy. You understand how to communicate leadership to your pup. Now What?

Before bringing your puppy home take the time to decide what that puppy is going to be allowed to do as an adult dog and don’t let it do that activity as a puppy.
Pick out your commands and make each one specific and be consistent.
Puppy proof your home: cords not dangling, items left on the floor picked up, dangerous chemicals up and out of the way.

When your puppy comes home it’s wise to have a dog crate, “no” this isn’t mean. At least section off a small area that the puppy can call it’s own where it will be safe and feel secure. Make sure this area is small, and easy to clean in case the pup has a potty accident. This will also aid in house breaking your puppy to go potty outside.

The neat thing about a dog crate you can put it in your bedroom at night so the puppy won’t feel alone. Give the pup just enough room to stand up, lay down, and turn around. You’re more apt to get some sleep. It will also be easier to hear your pup if it has to go potty during the night.

When your puppy comes home, make sure you bring home some of the same food that your pup is use to eating. If you change the pups food all of a sudden you could cause your pup to get diarrhea.

Give your puppy a good, short, positive name. I caution you against using negative names like trouble, mischief, demon, devil, and so on. Remember names mean something!

Before you your puppy comes home, hopefully you have found a good holistic vet. They are less likely to over vaccinate and use drugs. They will be more apt to lead you in a proper diet for your pup. Raw, which is best, or at least a quality kibble, or dehydrated food that you add meat, eggs, cottage cheese, veggies, and fruits too.

Take your puppy to your new vet for a fun visit several times to get acquainted. This will help your pup enjoy going to the vet’s office. Take your pup to other places to socialize. One hundred times a month is a good rule of thumb. Make sure your pup always has fun and a pleasant experience.

Have an adjustable buckle collar that will grow with your puppy and a lightweight leash. Put the collar on your pup at mealtime and leave it on except when your pup is in the crate. Always put the collar back on when the pup comes out of the crate and give it a meal or a food treat or play with him. This will be a pleasant experience and help to get his mind off of the collar. Puppy may not like the collar, but he will get use to it quickly.

With the leash supervise and let the pup drag the leash around. Then pick up the leash and follow the puppy. Soon you will be able to encourage your pup with voice, toy and or a food treat to follow you. NEVER drag your puppy to get it to walk on the leash.

Next we will touch on training for your puppy. But keep in mind that you are always teaching your puppy something every time you interact with him.

Why Crash Dieting Doesn’t Work

Posted on June 3rd, 2010

As every new year passes, January comes and with it a plethora of individuals looking for a way to lose weight as quickly as possible. While it is a dream that most of the North American population thinks about, losing weight quickly is not something that should be accomplished very quickly.

For the most part, many people actually start the proper way, eating clean and working out, but somewhere around the last week of January, they just stop. And then, it’s back to the yo-yo crash diets that have been plaguing mainstream society for decades. Some popular crash diets include the Master Cleanse, the Grapefruit diet, and the Cabbage Soup diet.

Needless to say, most people actually know that there are major issues with these types of diets, yet they ignore the warning signs and continue unheeded. Any type of diet which restricts and limits your eating to one particular group is not going to be good for your body. You will not be getting the daily allowance of vitamins and minerals which can not only create health issues itself, but can exacerbate problems that are already present.

The human body has its own complex yet highly evolved instinct which allows us to store fat deposits in case of hardship. Obviously, the body anticipates this due to our primitive natures. Fortunately, for people who live in third world countries and face this type of natural environment, this system of fat storing is essential to their survival. It is only in countries such as North America where people willfully and constantly overeat and wonder why they are so heavy compared to others.

Here is why crash dieting will not work. As calories become restricted, the body adapts the amount of energy burned throughout the day to a more minimal level. The first few days of a calorie restricted diet will make you lose weight; however, this weight is often called water weight and is lost when one becomes dehydrated or restricts calories too much. You can often lose up to 10 pounds of water weight, but once you begin taking regular amounts of food and water again, your “weight” will jump back up.

As you lower your calorie intake and your body adapts to the new level, your weight loss will stop. This does not take long at all, maybe a week or so. Then, you need to begin the cycle over again by further reducing your calories. At this point, your body realizes that it is slowly starving and jumps into what is referred to as starvation mode. Starvation mode essentially means any type of nourishment that is given to the body will be stored as fat and not used as energy. You could potentially get fatter due to this repetitive and vicious cycle.

The best way to lose weight is to change the type of foods you are eating and to have small, portion-controlled meals four to five times per day. When your body knows it isn’t going to starve, your metabolism speeds up causing a constant burning of calories.

Hemroids Causes and Prevention

Posted on June 2nd, 2010

There are so many causes of hemroids, but the main cause of hemroids can be divided in to two broad groups- the first one is life style and the second is eating habit.

Eating habits gives subjective nourishment to a person but excessive nourishment results physical strain. This is one of the major causes in the development of the hemroids.

Life style causes :-

Lack of fiber foods
Lack of water
Drinking alcohol

So, there can be so many factors that can lead to hemroids. But to cure them, is to deal with oneself. There are also some prevention-measures that one can apply in their daily life, described as follows-

Avoid junk food rather include peas, fruit, nuts, vegetables in your diet!
Always take full of vitamins and nutritional food including fiber as well.
Don’t take alcohol regularly; alcohol is one of the major causes of hemroids.
Regular exercise is must for good health! Exercise also helps in the prevention from all types of diseases.
Avoid all the things that make you dehydrated, like smoking, gutkhas, etc. These all things are prone to dehydration.
Always avoid sitting in place having no stretching space. This becomes a major cause for hemroids.
Always try to stay away from junk food and fatty foods. They will not provide you a healthy digestive system.
Avoid soft drinks! In spite of taking cold drinks, take a full glass of water.

Constipation is also major cause of hemroids; it helps in making the stool in the body if it is less then it is dangerous.
Do not take excessive sugar in your regular diet and routine.
Obesity is also concerned for generating the hemroids!

As every body know that every thing has its own importance in life but in proper and maintained way. Maintenance of a good health is like to earn the money. Avoid stress and live a relaxed life.

What Should You Do If Your Dog Gets Parvo

Posted on June 1st, 2010

Dreaded as it may seem, there are dog parvo treatments that you can use at home. However, if your dog doesn’t have the necessary immunization from this disease and the puppy is quite young, you are better off taking your dog to the vet because the disease can really be critical. It has complications that you want to be addressed fast because if not, your dog would definitely suffer so much from it.Right now, there are parvo treatment medicines available at pet care centers. While this seems to be the more practical choice, you really have to consider your dog’s condition before opting for it. It is always best to take your pet to the vet first and let the expert evaluate your dog.

Depending on the outcome of the diagnosis, you can choose between giving your dog home care and leaving it to the vet for hospitalization. If in case you really can’t afford the medical bills, you can address dog parvo at home by first making sure that your dog doesn’t get dehydrated. Dehydration is caused by diarrhea, which is a prominent symptom of this disease. More often than not, dogs die from it and not because of the virus itself. Hydrate your puppy or dog by giving it free access to water mixed with Gatorade at all times. Gatorade contains electrolytes that can save your pet from dehydration. Unflavored Pedialyte, which is a medicine used for babies, can be used alternately. It would also help to give your dog some broth or soup for food.If your dog doesn’t want to eat at all, you can use a big medicine dropper and administer food that way.

This is going to be quite a task but you really have to bring your dog’s strength back. It is in no way fit to fight off the disease if it isn’t strong enough. Your dog needs all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that it can get right now more than anything else. You also have to give your dog medicines. In most cases, antibiotics are needed. But it has to be the type that can help destroy the parvo virus. Try to look for parvo virus medicines and give it to your dog religiously. Use it as indicated in the label. There are several brands that you can choose from. Select the one that caters to your dog best.Keep in mind that you can’t eliminate the veterinarian totally if your dog is suffering from the parvo virus. Always check the vital signs of your pet because those would indicate whether or not your dog has to be rushed to the hospital fast. Note if your dog is dehydrated by pinching the skin just above the shoulder blades. If it remains lifted up or is slow when going back to its original position, then your dog is dehydrated and it needs IV fluids from the vet. Same goes if its gums are dark red or grayish in color. The gums have to return to their usual pinkish shade if you press them with your finger. If not, then there’s something wrong with your dog’s blood circulation and a trip to the vet is necessary.

Sick Parrots – Steps to Help Them

Posted on May 31st, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Pet birds can get sick just like any other pet. Unlike other pets though, birds try to hide their illness for survival reasons. In the wild a sick bird will not last long against a predator and many flocks will kick a sick bird out to keep the rest of the flock safe.

It is very important to watch your bird every day and already have a well established relationship with an avian vet.. A slight change to you in your birds behavior can be a drastic change to them. Should you notice such a change it is very important to seek veterinarian help immediately.

Sometimes though, you may not be able to get to a vet immediately. In this case here are some things you can do while you wait.

Most important is keep the bird warm. One of the first things to go is the ability to keep itself warm. Make sure there are no drafts or air vents pointing on your bird. If you cannot get the room temperature up, buy a night heat lamp from any pet store. The red glow is not detected by birds and will help calm them. If there is no way to get a red light, any incandescent bulb will be better than nothing. Make sure when positioning the lamp that the bird cannot come in contact with it.

If the bird is having a hard time perching by itself, it is best to move it to a hospital cage. This can be a smaller cage with little in it except a perch, and water and food bowls. A glass aquarium works well as it gives them something solid to sit on and helps retain the heat. Make sure you are only heating one end so if the bird gets to hot it can go to the other end to cool off.

Next is strength. Birds quickly loose strength and become dehydrated when sick and it is very important to try to keep that up as much as possible. A pediatlite solution will help. Try to use an eye dropper and see if he will take some. Be very careful not to force the mouth open and squirt it in there. The opening to the nares (nostrils) and trachea opening are at the top and bottom of the throat. Should you have some hand feeding formula available try and see if he will take it. This may be a very slow process. Even if he will just take very small amounts at a time, it will add up and will help.

If your bird is bleeding, the first step is to locate the source. Typically when you see blood it is going to come from the beak, nails, or feathers. If it is just a nail chipped off, put some styptic powder on the broken area and hold it there for a moment. This can be tricky if you bird will not help still for you. A stressed bird that is trying to fight you will be harder to clot as his blood pressure is higher. Sometimes they split the nail in half and will need stitches. If this is the case, a dap of superglue can help until you can get to a vet. Normal feathers do not have blood in them. When a bird molts and grows new feathers, there is a blood vein that runs through them. These are called blood feathers. In the event that a bird breaks a blood feather, it is almost impossible to get it to stop. The only method is to pull the entire feather out at the base of the bone. It is advisable to wrap a towel around your bird to do this. Firmly grab the base of the feather and pull it out quickly. DO NOT slowly tug at the feather waiting for it to budge as this will hurt your bird and may cause more damage. The feather will come out. You may want to put a little styptic power in the area where the feather was, but it should clot pretty quickly.

The key to keeping your bird healthy is to always monitor them. Watch their daily behaviors as this will help you detect anything out of the ordinary. Establish a good relationship with your avian vet when you purchase the bird and take them for regular checkups. Never be afraid to take him to the vet if you notice something wrong. Better safe then sorry.
